Visceral Desires (Opening Reception Recap)

Well, the opening reception of my solo show, Visceral Desires, at KORE Gallery has officially come and gone. After months of planning, painting, framing, organizing, and wondering how everything would come together, it was incredibly rewarding to finally see the exhibition on the walls and the room filled with people. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better turnout. Seeing friends, family, collectors, fellow artists, and so many new faces spending time with the work made all of the effort worthwhile.

This exhibition featured several bodies of work beyond the figurative paintings I’m primarily known for, including new abstract pieces, selections from my Cultural Sediments collage series, and a handful of original drawings. Show Prep and breaking free..

“Visceral” describes deep, instinctive emotional reactions felt in the body—“gut feelings”—rather than through intellectual reasoning. It implies a raw, profound response: visceral anger, fear, excitement. “Desire” means a strong feeling of wanting, wishing for, or craving something, often tied to the intention to attain it. It represents a conscious pull toward pleasure or satisfaction, ranging from a simple wish to intense passion or sexual urge.

Putting these two words together felt like it perfectly captured what I’ve been unconsciously doing across all of my practices…

Berlin visit

Just back from an unforgettable week in Berlin, where I immersed myself in the city’s rich history, vibrant street art, and sprawling contemporary art scene. Supported by the Great Meadows Artist Professional Development Program, I explored everything from underground galleries in Kreuzberg to museum giants like Hamburger Bahnhof and the Neue Nationalgalerie. The experience left me inspired, conflicted, and more curious than ever about the state of contemporary art.
