GUERRILLA BLOCKS

My Guerrilla Block series began in 2021, born out of a frustrating creative slump (with my primary discipline being painting.) It combines my love of street art and digital collage to create fun, affordable, and totally unique pieces of art — blending pop culture, nostalgia, and gay iconography into a street-art-inspired aesthetic. The work plays with ideas of representation, appropriation, and cultural critique, but more than anything, it's meant to bring a sense of fun into both the making and the viewing.

Each piece starts with a mix of found imagery and personal photography, digitally manipulated and collaged together. These vibrant compositions are wheat-pasted onto repurposed blocks of wood, finished with black-painted sides, and coated with varnish for a polished look. Every piece is signed and numbered on the back — a collectible, hand-finished bit of street art you can bring into your home.

Since starting the series, I've created over 300 blocks to date, sold locally through a boutique shop in Louisville, KY, and more recently through new gallery representation in Saugatuck, MI. I've actually had an Etsy shop for years, but never really used it — now I'm giving it a proper go by also selling many of my Guerrilla Block pieces directly from my home studio!

Looking ahead, I'm hoping to expand the series into a broader Guerrilla Pop Art line — one that pushes beyond wood block collaging into fancier framed pieces, plus some fun merchandise down the line. Stay tuned!
